The Most Fearless Cars In ‘The Fate of the Furious’ (aka Fast 8)

Hero cast and cars

Loud engine notes and deafening gun shots, the ever-successful franchise - The Fast and the Furious - is back with its eighth edition. The Australian release is today, April 12.

Titled ‘The Fate of the Furious’, otherwise known as ‘Fast 8’ (or #F8 for the hashtaggers), the storyline sees Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) away on their honeymoon. Brian and Mia have retired from the game, and the rest of the crew has been exonerated. In short, the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom back into a world of crime that he can't seem to escape, well that’s when things get loud again.. quickly.

And with loud noise obviously comes cars, trucks, tanks (you get the drift).. and yeah, the franchise has a pretty awesome history of rolling out some special eye candy for the car-porn lovers out there.

So, in Carzoos style, we’ve run over the list and put together our top 5 cars for the headline stars.

Dodge Ice Charger

Character: Dominic Toretto (“Dom”)
Actor: Vin Diesel

Fast 8 Dom Car

With each new instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise, there's three things we know to expect: new cars, big action and Dominic Toretto behind the steering wheel. And, nothing changes this time 'round!

Vin Diesel Profile

Dominic Toretto’s signature ride. What else would the man drive than Detroit muscle from Dodge. Furious 7 showed a Charger that was fitted for off-road driving and heavy weapon assault, and this time the classic shape has been re-formed into an ice racer. This muscle car is still every bit as recognisable and iconic, but the newly altered wheelbase and fender flares make this into quite the unique snow beast. And with the beast powered by a jet engine for on-screen awesomeness, it almost looks like something straight from the Back to the Future set.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Character: Roman Pearce (“Rome”)
Actor: Tyrese Gibson

Furious 8 Lamborghini Murcielago

The self-proclaimed “Double Alpha Man Candy” (aka comic relief) of the group, Roman, gets behind the wheel of an orange Lamborghini Murcielago, obviously to go with his character’s love of flash things and his desire to stand out. What is not so obvious – and an interesting fact – is that the Murciélago is named after a fighting bull that survived 24 sword strokes from a matador in an 1879 fight in Córdoba, Spain

Tyrese Gibson Profile

Considered the successor to the Diablo and flagship of the automaker's line-up, the Lamborghini Murcielago is 2-seater, 2-door coupe (with the now familiar gull-wing doors) based on the traditional Lamborghini layout: mid-mounted V12 engine, typical Lamborghini transmission with the gearbox mounted in front of the engine and the rear differential integrated into the engine unit, permanent four-wheel drive with central viscous coupler.

Oh … did we mention it does 0–97 km/h in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 341 km/h!

Local Motors Rally Fighter

Character: Leticia Ortiz (“Letty”)
Actor: Michelle Rodriguez

Local Motors Rally Fighter Fate And Furious Letty

Next up is Dom’s wife, Letty Ortiz, who will drive the Local Motors Rally Fighter, a 424bhp off-road beast powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that’s perfect for the snow scene in which the cars feature. This all-wheel-drive off-road coupe is modified with what looks like a brush bar and some really neat roof-mounted lights.

Michelle Rodriguez Profile

The Rally Fighter - which is the brainchild of a company called Local Motors - was featured in the American version of the television show Top Gear, as well as the Discovery Channel television show Game Changers, which showed the build process customers would experience. The brand takes pride in building powerful custom cars as per the requirement of the customer down to the very last bolt.

Character: Tej Parker
Actor: Chris “Ludacris” Bridges

Fast 8 Tej Car

Another tank-like vehicle comes in the form of the Howe & Howe Ripsaw, a light all-terrain vehicle which is like a combination of a mini tank and an ATV and features the badge of the US Army. It is driven by Tej, played by Ludacris, and a prototype version of the vehicle can do 0-100km/hr in less than 3.5 seconds.

Tej Parker Profile

Ripsaw EV2 (Extreme Vehicle 2) is one of the world’s most sought-after high performance, luxury vehicles. Originally designed and built for the military as a high speed super tank, its base platform the "Ripsaw" proved to be the fastest dual tracked vehicle ever developed. It has graced the covers of magazines such as Popular Science and won awards for invention of the year. Since 2013, Howe and Howe Tech has invested thousands of man hours developing this cutting-edge technology for the high end, luxury market. From 12 inches of suspension travel, to its luxurious interior and over 600 diesel horsepower, The Ripsaw is in league of its own when it comes to capability, speed and luxury.

A must watch:

Ice Ram

Character: Luke Hobbs (“Hobbs”)
Actor: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Ice Ram Fate And Furious Hobbs

Dwayne Johnson’s character Hobbs is known for his love of big, powerful cars, so he’s no stranger to driving military vehicles. This one is the sort of vehicle that boosts testosterone levels of the person driving it.

Dwayne Johnson Profile

The Ram, or the ‘Ice Ram’ as it is known, has tank treads instead of wheels and has been purpose built to go off-road. It has an exo-skeleton and a huge bull bar upfront to protect the vehicle from whatever comes in front of it. Presumably the giant fin on the back (which looks like a weaponised farm implement) is some type of ripper for ice and snow.
